A Mississippi firefighter whose son critically punched him during a family vacation last week in Florida has died of traumatic head injury.
Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart tells The Clarion-Ledger 52-year-old Leonard Dywane Harris, of Pearl, was pronounced dead at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
His death came less than 24 hours after being flown back to Mississippi from Florida, where he had been in critical condition at Orlando Regional Medical Center since the altercation outside a restaurant on July 7.
His son, 21-year-old Taylor Dwayne Harris, was charged with aggravated battery and domestic violence by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
A sheriff’s department spokeswoman said Taylor Harris’ charges likely would be upgraded, but she had no information about when that would happen.
