Chris Kolb receives top sophomore award at MCC

- MCC President Dr. Scott Elliott presents the top sophomore award to Chris Kolb.
Meridian Community College sophomore Chris Kolb received the H.M. Ivy Award during the College’s annual awards ceremony.
Held in the campus’ McCain Theater, the awards ceremony recognizes outstanding students in the areas of leadership, scholarship, performance and institutional excellence. The H.M. Ivy Award is given to the most outstanding sophomore student for the academic year.
Kolb was a multi-category winner during the evening’s ceremonies. In addition to the H.M. Ivy Award, Kolb was recognized as the recipient of the Robert Cochran Memorial Scholarship and was saluted as a member of the All-Mississippi Community College Academic Team.
Most Outstanding Scholar Athletes of the Year honors went to Brian Donohoe and Kelsey Wilson. MCC Drafting and Design Technology Program Coordinator Stuart Brown and Brian Donohoe were recognized as recipients of the faculty and student representatives, respectively, for the Higher Education Appreciation Day Working for Academic Excellence (HEADWAE).
Brian McLaughlin was named Outstanding College Activities Board Member for 2011-2012 while Samantha Abernathy and Eric Ferguston were tapped as Outstanding Freshman and Sophomore Ivy League Recruiters, respectively.
During the evening the Lucile Reisman Rosenbaum Memorial Scholarship, The Robert Cochran Memorial Scholarship and The Sammy Broadhead Memorial Scholarship and were announced. Thomas Stokes won the Rosenbaum scholarship; Colb won the Cochran scholarship and Kelsy Wilson won the Broadhead scholarship. Jonathan McMullen was the recipient of the Junior Auxiliary Royalty Education Scholarship.
Outstanding student organizations earning the B.G. Raden Award included Phi Beta Lambda, Computer Technology; Phi Beta Lambda, Business and Office Technology; and Student Association of Dental Hygienists. Top organizations named were PBL, Business and Office Technology; PBL, Computer Technology; Student Association of Dental Hygienists; Student Association of Early Childhood Development; Medical Laboratory Technology; Organization of Student Nurses; Health Information Technology Association; Delta Chi Epsilon, DECA; Student Association of Physical Therapist Assistants; and Phi Theta Kappa.
Who’s Who Among Students in American Community and Junior Colleges recipients were also recognized.
