Man found dead in Pascagoula jail cell

Authorities say a 44-year-old man being held at the Pascagoula city jail apparently killed himself.
The Sun Herald reports Michael Washington of Gautier was found hanging unresponsive in a jail cell around 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Capt. Davy Davis says jailers tried to resuscitate him while waiting for emergency personnel to arrive.
The Jackson County District Attorney’s Office and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation were called in to assist in the investigation.
Authorities have not released information on why Washington had been incarcerated.
Hancock County Coroner Vicki Broadus said an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
