Star of The Week: Susie Johnson

Susie Johnson is a Meridianite with a strong passion for the arts.

She serves as education director of the Meridian Symphony Association and is director of Stage 2, a theatre group that began last March as a creative outlet for teens in Meridian.

The current Stage 2 production, Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap,” opened last week at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

The final performance of “The Mousetrap” will be held tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the church, 1116 23rd Ave. The performance includes dinner. Tonight’s performance is being held because Thursday’s dinner show was postponed due to the weather.

Tickets are still available for tonight’s show.

Johnson said upcoming events planned for Stage 2 include interaction with local dance instructors for a Swing Dance/Big Band Party.

Summer workshops for children and adults this summer also are being planned as well an end-of-summer musical.

Johnson is a home-schooling mom, and she and her husband, Joel, sometimes perform with the musical group Track 45, formed by their children, Jenna, 20, Benjamin, 18, and K.K., 14.

Johnson’s family also has been involved with the local Meals On Wheels program for 14 years, and she’s been teaching an interdenominational Bible study class at Northpointe Presbyterian Church for 10 years.

“I love Meridian,” Johnson said. “I enjoy community work and trying to instill that not just in my kids, but with the groups that we work with.”
