Services for Christine Smith Trawick will be held Friday, at 12 noon, at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Jamie Lamoreaux and Dr. Tom Wood officiating. Special music will be provided by her grandchildren: Chris Trawick, Brandon and Caris Trawick Snider, and Delores Avara and Buddy McElroy. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Trawick, 94, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, at Waverly Personal Care Home in West Point. She was born on Feb. 5, 1917, in Meridian, to Virgil Moore Smith and Nettie Emma Blackmon Smith. She was married to Cecil Pershing Trawick for 60 years who preceded her in death on May 6, 2003. Mrs. Trawick graduated from East Mississippi Community College in Scooba and received her bachelor of science and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University. Her teaching career started in 1939 at Obadiah School and she also taught at Center Hill and Suqualena Schools in Lauderdale County and at Bissell School in Lee County. Her longest tenure was with the Tupelo Public Schools where she taught elementary students for 20 years. Christine and her husband Cecil were active and faithful members of Harrisburg Baptist Church in Tupelo and Briarwood Baptist Church in Meridian. She was known for her cooking and gardening, which she generously shared.
Survivors include her children: Charles Trawick of Franklin, Tenn., Curtis Trawick and his wife Janice of Tupelo, Carey Trawick and his wife Sandra of Dora, Ala., and Claire Spradling and her husband Stanley of West Point; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sarah Frances Snowden and her husband Norman of Wichita, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her brothers: Wilson, Durward and Evans Smith.
Pallbearers will be Chris Trawick, Casey Trawick, Justin Trawick, Will Spradling, Howard Trawick, Mike Trawick and Rickey Trawick.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Briarwood Baptist Church, 8733 Hillview Drive, Meridian, MS 39305.
