MCC fall graduation held at the Temple

Seven outstanding graduates, Racheal Lea Addy, Barbara Buntin Bosarge, Joycyln Cole, Shelly Hudnall, Kacey Elizabeth Lucky, Julie Kristen Sparks and Morgan Danielle Swancey were recognized as top scholars during Meridian Community College’s Fall Commencement ceremony.
The ceremony, held in Downtown Meridian’s Temple Theater, spotlighted the academic work of MCC students. Approximately 248 students were candidates for graduation.
The students were inducted as Circle of Excellence, an MCC academic honor in which those tapped were chosen on basis of scholarship, leadership, spirit and service.
Addy, a resident of Collinsville, is a graduate of the Associate Degree Nursing Program and plans to pursue a bachelor of science in nursing. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Organization of Student Nurses and is on the Dean’s List. She has participated in Operation Christmas Child and Habitat for Humanity, as well as serving as a volunteer with the American Red Cross and Vacation Bible School.
A resident of Meridian, Bosarge graduated from the University Transfer Program and plans to transfer to Mississippi State University-Meridian in Interdisciplinary Studies. With the goal of being a “lifelong learner,” Bosarge is a member of PTK. She is past PTA president at Northeast Lauderdale, past president of Meridian Symphony League and Meridian Junior Auxiliary. She has also taught Sunday school for many years, tutored children in East Mississippi State Hospital Adolescence Wing, volunteered at Wesley House, and participated in Relay for Life. Barbara is married and the mother of two children, Renee, 57, and Brian, 53. She is an active member of First Christian Church.
Cole, also a Meridian resident, graduated from the Cosmetology program and plans to work in a local salon. She has attended hair shows, participated in Springfest and other fundraisers, and helped with cosmetology activities for College for Kids. She works at a local daycare in the afternoons, but has volunteered at Toomsuba Head Start for spa day, participated in Street Strut for Breast Cancer Awareness, and is a volunteer at her local church.
Hudnall, a Philadelphia resident, graduated from the Practical Nursing Program. She plans to return to MCC and complete the Associate Degree Nursing program for RN licensure. Shelley is a on the dean’s list, is a member of Health Occupation Students of America, and a member of the Practical Nursing Student Organization. She participated in community activities involving Wesley House, Feed by Faith, food pantry and displaced homemakers. Hudnall is involved in a local soccer league and is a member of Mount Nelson Baptist Church. She is the mother of two children, Will, 18, and Caroline, 9.
Lucky, a Meridianite, graduated from the University Transfer Program. She plans to attend Belhaven University in Jackson where her career goal is to become a dentist. She is a member of PTK and a dean’s list scholar. She is a summer camp volunteer, as well as a volunteer with Love’s Kitchen and Bailey Fire Department. Lucky and her brother and sister form a singing group and perform at nursing homes and community clubs. She is an active member of her church choir and praise team.
A resident of Belmont, Sparks graduated from the Associate Degree Nursing Program with plans to become a nurse practitioner. Sparks is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Mississippi Organization of Associate Degree Nursing, and a president’s and dean’s list scholar. She founded the Meals on Wheels program at New Bethel Baptist Church and Cinderella’s Closet at Belmont High School. She has traveled to Honduras on medical missions and has organized a fundraiser for Quinn’s Ranch Children’s House honoring Mississippi State University head football coach Dan Mullen. She is a leader of the Gift of Giving Children Ministry, a member of North Mississippi Healthcare Foundation, and a unit coordinator at North Mississippi Medical Center emergency department where she was twice selected as a star employee.
Swancey, a resident of Enterprise and a graduate of the Associate Degree Nursing Program, plans to complete her bachelor of science in nursing degree and obtain certification as a neonatal nurse practitioner. Swancey is MCC’s homecoming queen for 2011, a member of the Organization of Student Nurses, Phi Theta Kappa, dean’s list scholar, and has served on the Public Relations Committee. She is a member of North Crest Baptist Church and participated in Operation Christmas Child, and made hats for persons with cancer.
