Services for Charlie B. Gordon were held at First Baptist Church in Prichard, Ala. Interment was in Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens with Reese Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Gordon, a native of Lauderdale County , Miss. and a resident of Mobile , Ala. died Friday, September 23, 2011 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital in Mobile.
Mr. Gordon was born May 9, 1925. He was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Prichard where he served faithfully until the Lord called him home. Mr. Gordon joined First Baptist Church on Sunday, July 14, 1996 under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Walter G. Bracy. After joining, he immediately went to work. He became active in the Sunday School, the Laymen’s Ministry, and the Usher Ministry where he served in the area of security. Mr. Gordon served in the United States Navy and was a World War II Veteran. In 1945, he received an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Navy. After his discharge from the Navy, he became a truck driver. His career as a truck driver spanned seven decades. He has traveled all over the United States and continued to maintain an excellent driving record. He retired from Truck Equipment Sales, Inc. and Gulf City Body and Trailer Works, Inc. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and caring family.
Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 63 years, Lillie B. Gordon; mother, Ada Gordon; brother, Eddie Johnson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Matt and Sarah Watson; sister-in-law, Mollie Jones; brothers-in-law, Lee Matt Watson, Kelly Watson, Freddie Watson; and daughter –in – law, Mary Watson .
Survivors include five daughters, Charlie (Wayman) Grant, Sarah (Alvin) Jones, Cynthia Robinson, LaSonya Toney, and Markisha Gordon of Mobile; four sons, Eddie J. Gordon, Lester (Delores) Gordon, Darron (Shelia) Gordon of Mobile, Larry Gordon of Biloxi, Miss.; one brother- in- law, Lewis (Sarah) Watson of Gadsen, Ala.; two sisters –in –law, Carrie Johnson of Yantley, Ala., and Emma P. Watson of Mayo, Fla.; one godson, Michael King; two goddaughters, Veronica Rice and Cynthia Fox – Watkins; 19 grandchildren; 35 great- grandchildren; caregivers, Susie Powell and Alisa Simpson; a host of nieces, nephews, devoted friends, and his First Baptist Church family.
