    Graveside services for Sandra Joy Vaughn will be held Friday, at 1 p.m., at Blue Springs Cemetery, Chunky, with Pastor Will Labrenz officiating. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    Sandra Vaughn, 62, of Meridian, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at her home. Sandy Vaughn was born Dec. 28, 1948 in Memphis, Tenn. She was a devout Christian whose faith in Jesus Christ carried her through her life. Sandy dedicated herself to her sons, instilling Christian values and supporting them in all walks of their lives. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her granddaughters, Adilyn and Lillian Vaughn. She also enjoyed sewing and smocking. Sandy dedicated 23 years to Mississippi State University and its students. Her professional passion was teaching and preparing her students for all that they might face in the field of social work.

    Ms. Vaughn was a 1971 graduate of Mississippi State University with a bachelor of science degree in social work. She graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1985 with a master of social work. She was the Director of Social Services at Rush Foundation Hospital from 1978-1990. From 1990-2011 she was an Associate Professor of Social Work and Director of the Social Work Program at Mississippi State University, Meridian. In 2003, she was honored as the Social Work Educator of the Year by the Alabama/Mississippi Social Work Education Conference.

    Ms. Vaughn was an active member of the Community Seventh Day Adventist Church where she served as a Sabbath School Teacher and in numerous other capacities.

    Survivors include her sons: Adam Vaughn and his wife Ashley of Philadelphia, Matt Vaughn and his wife Laya and their children Adilyn and Lillian.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommy and Marjorie Sanders of Newton.

    In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Blue Springs Cemetery Fund.
