    • East Central Community College Student Newspaper staff Cartoonist Tara Martin of Forest received one of 12 awards earned by the ECCC newspaper staff in the Mississippi Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest in the Community and Junior College Division. Martin was awarded second place in the Best Cartoon division for her cartoon titled, “Homecoming 2009,” depicting a Lady Warrior adorned with a homecoming crown.

    Martin is the daughter of Steve and Karon Martin of Forest and is a freshman liberal arts major.

    ECCC’s student newspaper, The Tom-Tom, was among the student newspapers in the state recognized during the O.C. McDavid Journalism Conference held March 25 at the Mississippi Craft Center in Ridgeland.

    • JACKSON – Mississippi College School of Law has announced that Michael Grace of Meridian was awarded the Phi Delta Phi Award. The Phi Delta Phi Award, given for the highest grade in Ethics in summer semester ’09, was presented at the law school’s Law Day ceremony.

     Grace is the son of Jimmy Ray Grace and Dana Prince of Meridian. He is married Emily Grace. Grace is a graduate of Mississippi College.
