Early morning shooting, person of interest in custody

Meridian police have a person of interest in custody relating to an early morning shooting that left a man and a 7-year-old injured.

According to Detective Dareall Thompson, police responded to a call at 6:40 a.m. regarding a shooting in the 300 block of 60th Avenue.

“Upon their arrival, police found a male subject and 7-year-old old shot,” Thompson said. “Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment.”

Thompson said the male subject underwent surgery for his injuries. He said the child’s injuries were not life threatening.

The detective said there was an ongoing dispute between the male subject and the person of interest in custody. The case remains under investigation.
