Two people escaped injury during an early morning fire Thursday at the Royal Inn motel on South Frontage Road in Meridian.
The fire broke out around 5 a.m. in one of the motel rooms, Meridian Fire Department Prevention Specialist Kenny Watson said.
When firefighters arrived on scene heavy flames and smoke were showing through the door of the room where the fire started, Watson said.
Two occupants were inside the room at the time of the fire, but were able to escape without any harm, Watson said.
The fire was accidental, with damage contained to one room. It took about 30 minutes to get the fire extinguished, he said.
Meridian Fire Station No.1 responded to the fire.
