EMCC outscores Holmes 63-49

No. 5 East Mississippi Community College rolled up 488 yards of total offense on 68 plays from scrimmage to defeat No. 16 Holmes Community College 63-49 in Goodman Thursday night.

With 12:17 remaining in the first quarter, EMCC quarterback De’Andre Johnson connected with wide receiver Mario Lanier for a 27-yard touchdown pass to put the Lions ahead 7-0 as part of a 21-point quarter.
Johnson finished the contest 18-of-29 for 216 yards and three passing touchdowns to go along with two ground scores on 28 rushing yards. Isaiah Wright’s 124 rushing yards and rushing touchdown paced the Lions’ backfield. Calvin Keys hauled in five receptions for 102 yards and a touchdown, and Lanier finished the contest with a receiving touchdown and 41 yards receiving.
Defensively for the Lions, defensive back Duke Upshaw recorded an interception, which he returned 22 yards.
