A high-speed car chase ended Friday night when the driver’s vehicle flipped and hit a power pole, disrupting power and hospitalizing the driver. 

A driver hit a vehicle with his truck around 10:30 p.m. near the 14th Street CEFCO across from Rush Foundation Hospital, according to Sgt. Dareall Thompson of the Meridian Police Department.

The other driver reported the accident and provided a description of the man’s vehicle after he fled the scene. An officer nearby saw the vehicle and started a high-speed pursuit, reaching speeds around 60 mph, Thompson said.

The chase ended when the driver took a curve on Old Marion Road too quickly and flipped his truck, hitting a power pole, Thompson said. 

Police reported the accident disrupted power on the east side of Meridian for up to two hours.

The driver received treatment for his non-life threatening injuries at a local hospital and officers took him into custody, police said. 

Police planned to charge the driver with felony fleeing.
