Veterans honored Wednesday at MCC and Friday on Veterans Day

A number of local activities are scheduled this week to honor military veterans.

A Veterans Day Program at Meridian Community College is scheduled at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Graham Gymnasium.

On Friday, a Veterans Day Ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the Meridian Doughboy Monument, located at Sixth Street and 23rd Avenue.

The Ladies Auxiliaries will place wreaths, while the Meridian Police Department’s Rifle Team will have the gun salute. Ron Smith will play TAPS. Algie Davis will lead the Pledge of Allegiance and Terry Pankhurst will sing the national anthem. Dignitaries will be introduced by Van McCarty, who will also introduce Toney.

A noon luncheon is scheduled at VFW Post No. 79 on Highway 80 W. Guest speaker will be American Legion State Commander Murry Toney, of Liberty.

A Veterans Day Parade is scheduled at 3 p.m. Friday in downtown Meridian. The parade begins at 9th Street and 25th Avenue. 

 

In Newton, a Veterans Day Service is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mississippi Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.

Also Friday, the Philadelphia/Neshoba County Veterans Day Parade is scheduled at 11 a.m. and starts at Poplar and Main streets.
