MPD announces arrests for violent crimes, including homicide

Meridian Police Department on Wednesday announced several recent arrests in connection with violent crimes in the city.
In a news release, Detective Chanetta Stevens, who serves as MPD’s public information officer, said two arrests were connected with recent shootings and one arrest in connection with a recent homicide.
Dedrick Grady, 29, was arrested on Dec. 8 by MPD’s gang unit in connection with a Nov. 26 shooting in the 300 block of Sweet Gum Bottom Road. He is charged with aggravated assault and shooting into a motor vehicle, Stevens said. Bond for Grady was set at $275,000.
MPD is also searching for a second suspect, 25-year-old Daquarrius Williams, in that shooting.
Officers with MPD’s gang unit and special operations division also arrested 36-year-old Calvin C. Williams on Tuesday, Dec. 12, in connection with a Sunday shooting in the 1500 block of 14th Avenue, Stevens said. One individual was grazed by a bullet.
Stevens said Wilson is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon by a felon. His bond is set at $275,000.
Additionally, Meridian police working with officers from the Denton, Texas, police department arrested 18-year-old Jakeevian Scott. Stevens said Scott is charged with murder in connection with a Sept. 17 homicide in the 1800 block of 24th Street. Bond for Scott was set at $1 million.
“The Meridian Police Department would like to thank the Denton Police Department for all their help,” Stevens said in the prepared statement.
In addition to the arrests for violent crimes, Stevens said MPD has also arrested Regionald Jordan, 31, as a suspect in multiple acts of vandalism in the 4900 block of 5th Street.
