In an exhibition match at C.D. Smith Field Thursday on the Meridian Community College campus, MCC Lady Eagles tied with Hinds Community College Lady Eagles 1-1.

“This was the first game of the year and the first time to play somebody other than ourselves and overall, I think we did good. But that’s what an exhibition game is there for — to see what to work on,” MCC Head Soccer Coach Mike Smith said.

“Obviously, we want to win — and we had chances to win — I think we were the better team. We just couldn’t get another goal,” he said. Clair Campbell, a freshman from Collinsville, earned the goal for the MCC Lady Eagles.

The men’s match proved to be a battle through adversity with the game results of Hinds Eagles defeating MCC Eagles 6-2.

“I thought we started well,” Smith said, with the first goal of the game being scored by MCC’er Casey Ulmer, a freshman from Northeast Jones. “We held it for a little while,” Smith noted.

The MCC Eagles travel north to Senatobia to play Northwest Community College for the first regular-season game on Tuesday. Women play at 2 p.m., while the men’s game starts at 4.
