The Meridian Police Department is investigating a Friday night shooting that sent a man to the hospital.

The shooting happened around 11:45 p.m. in the 1900 block of 20th Street, according to MPD Sgt. Dareall Thompson. The male victim was airlifted to a hospital in Jackson after seeking treatment at a Meridian hospital, he said.

The victim and the shooter knew each other, and the shooting was the result of an altercation between the two, he said.

Police are seeking a person of interest in the shooting, and plan to charge the person with aggravated assault once they are arrested, Thompson said.
