Bar owner was victim of Monday fatal shooting

The victim in Monday’s fatal shooting has been identified as Robert Trout, the owner of Frank’s Drive-In, according to Lauderdale County Coroner Clayton Cobler. 

Trout, 52, died from a gunshot wound during an armed robbery of Frank’s, a bar on 5th Street in Meridian. Police haven’t released the full details, but said it appeared to be a planned robbery that went badly.

“Based on witnesses, two people came in and one of them was shooting,” Thompson said. 

Thompson said he couldn’t confirm the number of shooters or whether another shooter was involved. 

The shooting injured three other men on Monday, but Thompson said all three remained hospitalized as of Wednesday. 

According to Trout’s Facebook, he had been self employed for just over a year, starting in August of 2016. Trout, of Meridian, graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1988 and went by the nickname “Fish.”
