Worship Site Profile – Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church
Published 3:15 pm Friday, July 7, 2017
Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, founded in 1830, is said to be the oldest Southern Baptist Church in Newton County.
In June of 1995, the church and fellowship hall were destroyed by fire. The congregation met at the Lodge in Chunky until the church was rebuilt. Three years later, a new brick fellowship hall was built.
Mt. Pleasant has produced several ministers: Rev. Clay Cooley, Rev. Eric Embrey, and Rev. Joel Embrey. An interesting note, Dr. Danny Lanier, who is currently pastor of Northcrest Baptist Church in Meridian served his first pastorate at Mt. Pleasant.
