JUCO golf: Eagles place sixth at NJCAAs

The MCC Eagles golf team shot 297, 303, 301 and 295 to place sixth in the NJCAA National Championships in Mesa, Ariz. Mesa Community College won the championship by five strokes over fellow MACJC school Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Placing third was Murray State, fourth was Tyler and fifth was South Mountain. Another MACJC school, Co-Lin, placed 11th.
“We played hard all week but just could not get comfortable on the greens” said coach Ronnie Key. “I am proud of the way the guys worked to place 6th. It was very hot, but they handled it well.”
The Eagles were led by freshman Isaiah Jackson and sophomore Porsche Kitipongpatana who both placed tied for 24th to be named to the Ping All-American Honorable Mention team. Each shot 14 over for the tournament. Sophomores Lance Strickland and Malachi Spiers finished tied for 39th by shooting 303 for the tournament.
Freshman Jacob Berry, battling a wrist injury, shot 310 and tied for 56th.
Earlier in the week, Isaiah Jackson was named a Ping 1st Team All-America for his play throughout the year. Lance Strickland was named to the Ping All-American honorable mention team.
This is second year in a row the Eagles have finished in the top 10, placing eighth last year.
