- Submitted photoPatrol Lt. Rita Jack and Captain John Griffith at a press conference annoucing the Take-Back Day, an event to collect unwanted or expired medication to prevent abuse and environmental contamination.
The Meridian Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration will accept unwanted or expired medications Saturday, disposing them safely and anonymously to prevent drug abuse and protect our natural resources.
According to the DEA, a majority of abused drugs come from the medicine cabinets of friends and family. Throwing unwanted medications in the trash pollutes the environment while flushing unwanted medications can contaminate the water supply.
To deter these environmental consequences and dispose of unwanted medication, the DEA and Meridian Police Department will accept unwanted drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 29 at the Bonita Lakes Mall Police Precinct, near the food court entrance.
Syringes and injectables will not be accepted. Take-Back Day is free and completely anonymous.
