Area Roundup: NEL girls capture first place in Division 4-4A track meet

The Northeast Lauderdale girls track team put together 64 points to capture first place in the Division 4-4A track meet that was held at Kosciusko.
The Lady Knights had 64 points, followed by Noxubee County with 39, Kosciusko with 29, New Hope with 19, West Lauderdale with 14 and Louisville with six.
Louisville won the boys meet with 55 points, followed by Noxubee County with 52, Northeast Lauderdale and Louisville who were tied at 30 points, West Lauderdale with 15 points, New Hope with 13 and Neshoba Central with one point.

Kosciusko 5
West Lauderdale bounced back with a 7-5 Division 4-4A win over Kosciusko Tuesday night.
With that win and Neshoba Central’s 4-1 loss to New Hope, the Knights wrap up the division championship.
Drew Snider was the winning pitcher, pitching in relief of Patrick Daughtery. Snider’s record now stands as 5-0.
Snider hit a home run to lead the Knights at the plate. Cody Freeman and Luke Walker each added two doubles.
West Lauderdale, now 23-3, hosts Neshoba Central on Friday at 7 p.m.

Sebastopol 3
The victories keep coming in for the Division 6-1A champion Lake Hornets.
Needing just one win to claim the division title coming into the final week of the season, the Hornets picked up their second win by beating Sabastapol.
Sam Wooten was the winning pitcher, upping his record to 4-2 on the season. In five innings of work, Wooten fanned four batters while giving up three walks and three earned runs.
Terrell Ricks and Jason Judge both went two-for-two while Heath Street had one hit. Lake hosts South Leake Thursday.

Enterprise 13
Wayne Co. 3
The Enterprise Lady Bulldogs upped their record to 15-8 with a win over Wayne County.
Laura Speed was the winning pitcher as she improved her record to 7-3 on the season. Speed had four strike outs and gave up only one hit.
Summer Robinson had a double, a single and three RBIs to lead Enterprise. Kristen Gavin and Haley-Brooke Smith added two singles apiece while Paige Sheppard hit a single and knocked in two RBIs.

Clarkdale 16
Philadelphia 5
The Clarkdale Lady Bulldogs improved to 16-4 on the season with a win over Philadelphia.
Erin Adcock was the winning pitcher, upping her record to 8-3.
Sarah Beckman went three-for-five while hitting a home run to pace the Lady Bulldogs. Amber Spann added a homer while Whitney Drachenburg and C.C. Roberts each had two hits. Kim Seale didn’t get a hit but walked five times.
The Lady Bulldogs host Seminary Saturday at 1 p.m. in the first round of the state playoffs.

Lamar places 2nd
The Lamar School golf team was two strokes away from victory Tuesday as the Raiders finished second in the Jackson Prep Invitation.
Jackson Academy won the tournament with a team score of 302. Lamar came in second with a score of 303, followed by Jackson Prep with 316, Presbyterian Christian with 317, and Hillcrest with 322.
Jarrod Moulds led Lamar with a 72, followed by Clay Bounds who shot a 72, Easton Key shot a 77 and Elliott Tramontana had a 79.
Lamar plays in the South State Tournament April 24 at the Jackson Country Club.

Itawamba 5, 8
EMCC 4, 1
East Mississippi Community College dropped a pair of games to Itawamba Tuesday.
The Indians out hit EMCC 7-6 in the first game as Darrell Little took the pitching loss. Pat Thompson led the Lions with two hits and two RBIs.
Ken Mitts took the pitching loss in the second game. Boomer Brown went two-for-three for the Lions while Drew Harper hit a single and drove in a run.
EMCC, now 10-20 on the season, visits Northeast CC Friday.

Holmes 1, 2
Meridian Community College collected a pair of victories over Holmes Community College Tuesday as the Lady Eagles improved to 6-2 in conference play.
Emily Howard was the winning pitcher in both games.
Courtney Gordon went three-for-three in the first game. One of those hits was a two-run homer. Shantalle Wilson added a pair of singles.
In the second game, the Lady Eagles banged out 10 hits. Terra Moore, Sally Kerstette and Gordon all had two hits while Lindsay Hitt belted a double.

MCC sweeps JCJC
The Meridian Community College tennis teams took a pair of wins over Jones Junior College.
The Lady Eagles breezed to a 9-0 victory while the MCC men won 8-1. On Sunday, the MCC men beat Co-Lin 8-1.
