COLUMBUS — Raj Dolia of Meridian High School and Jonathan Harper and Dylan Perry of Northeast Lauderdale High School have been accepted to the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science’s Class of 2008. They will attend MSMS this fall.
MSMS is a public, residential, tuition-free high school for 11th- and 12th-graders. The school is located on the campus of Mississippi University for Women. MSMS was created by the legislature in 1987 to enhance Mississippi’s future by providing innovative learning experiences to Mississippi’s gifted and talented high school students. MSMS challenges each student based on individual capabilities, background and academic interests with an emphasis placed on mathematics and science.

DECATUR — Members of the Newton County High School Band Colorguard for 2006-07 are Kimberly Joyner, Kimberly Goodin, Ashley Ezell, Brittany Williamson, Kim Amerson, Kristin Barnhardt, Kimberly Amerson, Ashley Broach, Shaterica Curry, Rachael Morgan and Christine Eaves.
Selected as band student leaders were Brandon LaBue, president; Wayne Dowden, vice president; and Austin Crouther, drum major.
Band students classified as senior members are Shandae Foley, Emilee Lanier, Ashley Ezell, Tiffany Sims, Marli Marseda, Mickey Skinner, Austin Crouther, Brandon LaBue and Kristin Barnhardt.

OXFORD — The following Meridian students were among the University of Mississippi’s 881 summer candidates for degrees: Jennifer Paige Butler, bachelor of arts in Education; John Hays Compton, bachelor of arts; Benjamin Edward Davidson, bachelor of arts; Austin Wilburn Holmes, bachelor of business administration; Melissa Blair Love, bachelor of business administration; and Caleb Lee Nicholson, bachelor of accountancy.

STARKVILLE — Micheal B. Rose of Bailey was one of 35 current and recently graduated architecture majors who hold honors for outstanding achievements during their study in Mississippi State University’s College of Architecture, Art and Design.
Rose received the Second Year Faculty Book Award in Design Excellence. The award recognizes one or more students who have had the most influence on second-year design classes.
The 1999 West Lauderdale High School graduate is the son of Kenny and Barbara Rogers.

Cortez Wilson, 18, of Meridian, is one of 50 students named to the first class of KFC’s Colonel’s Scholars. Wilson, who developed an afternoon tutoring service to provide students help in math, science and history, is a freshman at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Wilson will receive up to $5,000 per year, and could receive up to $20,000 over four years to complete a bachelor’s degree.
