Nicole Burton of Toomsuba is featured in the University of Mississippi’s “View,” a booklet that provides information about campus life to prospective students and parents.

The 25-page publication features Burton as she maneuvered through her freshman year of college. Burton provides a personal account of college life — orientation, move-in woes, independence, eating out, study habits, dorm life, course load, Honors College and leisure time.

Burton attends the Honors College at the University of Mississippi and has received several academic scholarships at Ole Miss. She is a 2005 highest honors graduate of Meridian High School. She is the daughter of Carl and Shirley Burton of Toomsuba.

Daniel J. Reid of Gautier has been named a United States National Award Winner in Science.

Reid, who attends Gautier High School, was nominated for the national award by Leslie Salter, a teacher at GHS. Daniel will appear in the United States Achievement Academy’s Official Yearbook, which is published nationally.

The academy selects USAA winners on the exclusive recommendation of teachers, coaches, counselors and other qualified sponsors and on its own selection standards.

Criteria for selection include students’ academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability, and recommendations from qualified sponsors.

Reid is the grandson of Herman and Judy Reid of Philadelphia. He is the son of Doug and Bonnie Reid of Gautier. He is also the grandson of Ken and Doris Cook of Greer, S.C.

STARKVILLE — Two Meridian residents have received scholarships at Mississippi State University.

Wilson Cooper Brookshire is a 2006-07 recipient of the following scholarships awarded by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences: Girod Pre-Vet Scholarship, Robert S. Barker Endowed Scholarship, Ag 100 Endowed Scholarship and Si Corley Memorial Endowed Scholarship.

Brookshire is a freshman in the College of Veterinary Medicine at MSU. He is the son of Brian and Kathy Brookshire.

Jessica D. Lindsey is the 2006-07 recipient of the Art and Mary Glynne Massey Endowed Scholarship awarded by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Lindsey is a senior majoring in food sciences at MSU. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Lindsey.

ATLANTA — Enterprise High School student April Talley of Meridian has been selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars.

The society recognizes the top scholars in the nation and invites only those students who have achieved superior academic excellence.

At Enterprise, Talley is a member of the band, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Beta Club and is an Honor Roll student. She is listed in “Who’s Who Among American High School Students” and the National Honor Roll. She is a member of the Meridian Children’s Chorus.

Talley is the daughter of David and Rhonda Talley.
