NCA boys down Wayne Academy

Newton County Academy used a big second half to down homestanding Wayne Academy 57-47 in area high school basketball action Friday night.
The Generals, who trailed 24-22 at halftime, outscored Wayne 20-14 in the third quarter and 15-9 in the fourth.
Brody Thomas pumped in a game-high 20 points for NCA, which is now 6-3 overall and 4-1 in MPSA District 5-A action.
Landon Devoter added 15 points for the Gens, while Ben Thames scored 10 and Landon Burt chipped in eight.
Patrick Shima led Wayne with 12 points. Jacob Jordan added nine.

Enterprise 29
The host Lady Bulldogs got a big night from Kristi Walker as they downed visiting Enterprise.
Clarkdale, which is now 5-3 overall, got 18 points from Walker and eight from Lady Graham to take the defensive struggle.
Madalyn Chancellor tallied 11 points and Baleigh Volking scored 10 for Enterprise.
Clarkdale, which trailed 16-15 at halftime, hosts defending Class 1A state champion Stringer Monday.

The visiting Bulldogs of Enterprise jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first half and made it stand up by holding off Clarkdale.
Marquez Goodloe pumped in a game-high 22 points to lead Enterprise, while J.D. McGruder scored 13 and Demarcus Taylor 10.
Clarkdale lost despite putting four players in double figures. Mac Hamburg and Russell Roberts — who hit five 3-pointers — both scored 15 points while Ryan Hinton and Brian Coleman scored 11 apiece.
Clarkdale, which is now 3-4, entertains Stringer Monday.

Williams-Sullivan 60
The Lady Wildcats outscored Williams-Sullivan 11-4 in overtime to knock off the host Lady Yellowjackets.
Chadisty HIckman’s two free throws with 12.8 seconds left in regulation tied the game, then Alicia Griffin had four key points and three steals in the extra period to help Kemper improve to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in Division 5-2A.
Javitia Eades had 15 points, 21 rebounds and fives steals to lead Kemper, while Brittany Bohannon had 16 points and five steals and Rotasha Windom had 16 points and 12 rebounds. Almetra Hicks was also in double figures with 12 points, and she had five assists and four steals.
There were 18 lead changes and eight ties in the contest.
Brittany Moore pumped in a game-high 24 points to lead Williams-Sullivan.

The Wildcats got a big slam dunk from Lewis Little to shift the momentum in the third period, turning a close game into a blowout.
Kemper, 6-2 overall and 1-0 in division play, was up just two when Little had the dunk and was fouled. The Cats wound up outscoring the Yellowjackets 34-20 in the second half.
Little finished with 12 points and eight rebounds and Javon Payne had nine points for Kemper, which was playing without all-star forward Marcus Green — who is on a football recruiting trip this weekend.
Dejay Watkins added eight points for Kemper, Thomas Jenkins scored seven points, Roderick Grady had six points and eight rebounds and Tavorise Giles had five points and three assists.

Meadowview, Ala. 52
The Eagles improved to 4-1 on the year with a double-digit win in the Patrician Academy Holiday Classic in Butler, Ala.
Joseph Reed poured in a game-high 35 points and also grabbed 11 rebounds for Sumter, which led 44-33 at halftime.
Hunter Spidle added 11 points for the Eagles, who will play tonight in the championship game.

The Lady Eagles also moved into tonight’s championship game of the Patrician Academy Holiday Classic with an easy win Friday.
Sumter Academy, which is now 3-2, got 21 points and 13 rebounds from Erin Ozment and 10 points from Emily Conway.
The Lady Eagles led 23-14 at halftime.

The defending AISA Class 2A state champion Lady Saints suffered their first loss of the year in their own tournament Friday.
Savannah Smith scored 12 points for Patrician, which fell to 7-1 on the season.

The Lady War Eagles remained unbeaten on the year thanks to a big second half.
Wayne County, which is ranked No. 1 in Class 4A and No. 2 overall by the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, led by just four points at halftime before outscoring South Jones 39-13 in the final two quarters.
Shameka Russell pumped in 18 points to lead the Lady Eagles, who are now 12-0.

The Rebelettes ran their record to 11-0 on the year with an easy win over Columbia earlier this week in the Hillcrest Christian Tournament.
Whitney Gross poured in 17 points for Leake, while Mary Lauren Wilson scored 13, Hannah Lee had 11, Allison Phillips nine, Hailey Henderson eight, Julie Wilbanks seven and Anna Clare Winstead six.
Britney Harvey handed out 13 assists and also had five steals for Leake, while Phillips had a team-high six rebounds and Lee four assists. LA had 31 steals, with Lee’s eight leading the way.
Lindsey Beard led Columbia with 26 points.

New Hope 3
The Knights improved to 2-0 in division play by knocking off the visiting Trojans.
Neil Robinson had a hat trick for West Lauderdale, which is also 6-2-3 overall.
Robinson’s first goal came on an assist from Nathan Hodges, but the Knights were down 2-1 at halftime. He then scored two goals in the second half to help West tie things at 3-3.
Manuel Lubos had the game-winning goal for West, while David Lott and Micah McKee were in goal for the Knights.
West Lauderdale returns to action with another division game Monday at Kosciusko.

The Lady Knights improved to 5-3-2 overall and 2-0 in divsion play with a shutout of the visiting Lady Trojans.
Freshman Carly Milling scored a pair of goals for West, while Kylie Rowell and Brittany Uhl scored one goal each.
Rowell, Uhl, Jordan Sosebee and Rachel Reeves all had assists.
West is at Kosciusko Monday.

Friday night’s matches between Northeast Lauderdale and Neshoba Central were postponed because of the expected low wind-chill temperatures.
The matches will be made up Friday, Dec. 15.
Northeast’s next action is Thursday against Southeast Lauderdale.
