Thomas Hodges
Retired
Services for Thomas Hodges will be held Saturday in Chicago. Berry and Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Mr. Hodges, 78, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, at Oak Park Hospital in Chicago.
He was born and educated in Meridian, where he attended Galilee Elementary School and Wechler High School before joining the U.S. Army. After his tour of duty, he moved to Chicago. He will be remembered as a man of honor who loved his family.
Survivors include his wife of more than 53 years, Alzelia Hodges; a son, Edward Hodges; brothers, Robert Hodges and Edward Hodges; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His nieces and nephews of the late Mattie Hodges Bourrage of Meridian include: Willie Bourrage and his wife, Nancy, and Patsy Wooten all of Chicago, Shirley Burton and her husband, Carl, of Meridian, Deborah Stokes and her husband, Larry, of Meridian, Douglas Bourrage and his wife, Lavern, Christine Naylor and her husband, David, Dessie Johnson and her husband, Winston, all of Meridian and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dora and McKenzie Hodges; sons, Thomas Hodges Jr. and Curtis Hodges; sisters, Mattie Hodges Bourrage, Ethel Hodges Dale, Dessarie Hodges Smith, Christine Hodges Drake and Minnie Pearl Hodges Thomas and one brother, Willie Mac Hodges.
Alva Oscar Pool Jr.
Graveside services for Alva Oscar Pool Jr. will be held today at 11 a.m. at Magnolia Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Harrison officiating. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Pool, 87, of Meridian, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at the Regency Hospital in Meridian. He was a life long member of Central United Methodist Church in Meridian. He was a 1941 graduate of Mississippi State University with a degree in chemical engineering. He was a member of the 9:30 Round Table Coffee Club and a member of SAGA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. He was a member of King Solomon’s Masonic Lodge and a life member in Hamasa Temple.
Survivors include his son, W. Randy Pool and his wife, Suzie, of Meridian; a brother, William Bruce P’Pool of Baton Rouge, La.; a daughter-in-law, Babs Pool of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jason Pool, Parker Pool, Keeton Pool, and Whitney Pool; great-grandchildren, Mary Beth Pool and Terra Pool.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanice Pool; sons, Buster Pool and Richard Keeton Pool; parents, Oscar and Mazie Pool; a sister, Marion Holyfield and a sister-in-law, Polly P’Pool.
Memorials may be made to Buster Pool Memorial Scholarship Fund, C/O Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, 3833 Cleghorn Ave., Nashville, Tenn., 37215.
Visitation will be today from 9:30 a.m. -11 a.m. at the funeral home.
William Frank Turner Sr.
PHILADELPHIA — Services for William Frank Turner Sr. will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at East Philadelphia Baptist Church. Burial will be in Cedarlawn Cemetery in Philadelphia. McClain-Hays Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Turner, 77, of Helena, Ala., died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, in Alabaster, Ala. He was a long time resident of Philadelphia and was part owner of Turner Hardware and Furniture Company. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church since moving to Helena in 2001.
Survivors include his daughters, Jane Turner Bishop of Pelham, Ala., and Dana Turner Pendarvis of Hermitage, Tenn.; sons, Mike Turner of Denver, Colo. and Bill Turner of Nashville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; brothers, Joe Turner and Walter Turner, both of Philadelphia.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine “Jerry” Turner in 2002.
Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Christine Wright Smith
Service for Christine Wright Smith will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Stephens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in First Baptist Church Cemetery in Collinsville.
Mrs. Smith, 88, of Meridian, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at Heartfelt Hospice.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Maria Hudson

Services for Maria Hudson will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Berry and Gardner Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Hopson officiating. Burial will be in Meridian Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Hudson, 56, of Meridian, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, in Meridian.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Johnnie B. Altman

Services for Johnnie B. Altman will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church in Toomsuba with the Rev. Eddie Satcher officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Berry and Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Altman, 93, of Lauderdale, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, in Lauderdale.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Altman of Lauderdale; daughters, Gloria Jean Altman Smith of Sandusky, Ohio, Johnnie Ree Altman Smith, Carolyn Altman Randle, Violet Sillmon, all of Lauderdale; a sister, Mary Kelly of De Moines, Iowa; a brother, R.L. Altman of Detroit; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be Friday from 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Susie Glynn Little Martin
GRENADA — Services for Susie Glynn Little Martin were held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Garner-Harper Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Grenada Memorial Garden Cemetery.
Mrs. Martin, 67, of Ozone, Ark., died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, in her home.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Martin; daughters, Dixie Cunningham, Regina Walker, Traci Temples, Dawn Graff and Anna Coleman of Meridian; three sisters; two brothers; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

YORK, Ala. — Services for Tammy Dennis Bragg were held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Bumpers Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Reid Vaughn and Tim Buchanan officiating. Burial was in Clay Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Bragg, 44, of Cuba, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, at Hill Hospital in York, Ala.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis Bragg of Cuba; sons, Travis Griffs and his wife, Mindy, and Cody Bragg, all of Cuba; her parents, Byron and Shirley Dennis of Cuba; brothers, Scott Dennis of York, Glynn Dennis and Craig Dennis and his wife, Andrea, all of Cuba; sisters, Sherry Newton and her husband, Oscar of York, Teresa Dennis and Connie Young and her husband, Lee, all of Cuba.
Pallbearers will be Otis Carney, Marvin Dyer, Cleveland Jones, Ray Kennedy, Billy Brewer, Stewart Donald and George Welch.
