Let’s tip our hats again to the mayor and other civic leaders in Meridian and surrounding county for protecting Meridian’s local wage scale. The folks in Tupelo will have to deal with that problem now that Toyota has announced plans to build a new plant in their town and create 2,000 new jobs. If the people in Tupelo want more smoke stacks and the fear of losing their employees to such a large employer, let them have their way. After all, there will be those in Meridian who can sell more diesel to all those truckers who need to use the toilet while on their way to the new plant in Tupelo. And you still don’t have to worry about former residents like me moving back to Meridian and changing the status quo.
