Leigh Anne Curtis of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and John Chilton Powell III of Birmingham, Ala., were married on Aug. 25, 2007, at York United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rod Curry officiating the 6:30 p.m. ceremony.

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Danny Royce Curtis of Ward, Ala., and Mr. and Mrs. John Chilton Powell, Jr. of Vestavia.

The bride is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Stewart Averett of Greensboro, Ala., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Jowers of Ward.

The bridegroom is the grandson Mr. and Mrs. John Chilton Powell of Hoover, Ala., and Dr. George Curtis Bucher of Guntersville, Ala., and the late Delores Bucher.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore an ivory silk organza gown with French Alencon lace overlay.

Danielle Curtis Spree of Jackson, sister of the bride, served as matron of honor. Other attendants were Renee Marie Gauthier and Martha Hardin Gray, both of Tuscaloosa; and Allison Elizabeth Green, Kathryn Yarbrough Hudson, Kathleen Gibson Sarrels and Jessica Powell Waltman, all of Birmingham.

The father of the bridegroom served as best man. Groomsmen and ushers were William Michael Cumby of High Point, N.C.; Joseph Lee Tindell of Atlanta; Charlton Paige Dennison of Tuscaloosa; and Joshua David Earnest, Joseph Blake Phillips and Brett Aron Weathers, all of Birmingham.

After a trip to the Mayan Riviera, the couple will reside in Birmingham.
