Here’s a look at upcoming events at local and area public, private and parochial schools:
Upcoming seminars in the Seminars for Parents Series:
• March 6 – Lamar School Workshop for Parents Series: “How to Talk to Your Children about Difficult Topics,” (rescheduled from January), from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m., cafetorium at Lamar School. Dr. Lee Lee Marlow, a licensed psychologist and director of the Division of Children and Youth Services at Weems Community Mental Health Center, will provide practical information for parents, teachers, counselors and others who live or work with children ages 2 to 18. Admission is free and the seminar is open to the public.

• Feb. 22 – Grandparent’s Day program presented by the second grade classes, Poplar Springs Elementary School.
• March 3 – Witherspoon Elementary School’s kick-off of “Read Across America,” 10 a.m. Mayor John Robert Smith will read Dr. Seuss stories to students in kindergarten through second grade.
At 5:30 that evening, Witherspoon will host a Family Reading Night in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Ed Lynch will read a selection of Seuss’ works and a dinner
of green eggs and ham (along with a Seuss birthday cake) will be served.

Here’s a look at upcoming events at East Central Community College, Decatur:
• Today – Black History Month Program, 7 p.m., Vickers Fine Arts Center. The Rev. Pervis Mann of Carthage will be the featured speaker. The college’s Gospel Choir serves as sponsor. There is no charge for admission.

Here’s a look at upcoming events at Mississippi State University-Meridian Campus:
A series of Wellness Therapy Institute workshops will be held through April. Sessions are scheduled from 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. in Room 112 (unless otherwise noted). Participants will receive 3 contact hours each (CEUs and SWUs available). Registration fee $30 each (Preregistration is required)

Here’s a look at upcoming events at other junior, community and senior colleges and universities:
• March 1 – Second Annual Super Tiger Day, the University of West Alabama campus. Six Tiger athletic teams will be competing that day, with Gulf South Conference action on the diamond and the hardwood.
The day begins at 10 a.m. with Coach Bobby Wallace’s team taking the field for a football scrimmage at Tiger Stadium and with a women’s tennis match against Arkansas Tech at the Howard R. Vaughan Tennis Complex. At the newly renovated UWA Softball Complex, the Tigers will host Crichton at noon. The UWA baseball team will take on GSC rival Delta State University in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Tartt Field, while the women’s basketball team hosts its final home game against GSC and in-state rival Montevallo in Pruitt Gym. At 4 p.m., men’s basketball also takes on Montevallo, while the softball team returns to action against Christian Brothers.
In addition, UWA invites prospective students and their families to campus for the University’s annual spring Preview Day.
Designed to inform high school and community college students about all aspects of the 173-year-old institution, the day will start with lunch at 11:30 a.m. at the Student Union Building, followed by tours of the Livingston campus. Complimentary tickets to the UWA baseball games are available for Preview Day participants and guests.
