On May 16 Commander Randy Reeves was honored at Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tenn., for his having more than 27 years of service.

Commander Reeves originally entered military service in 1980 when he enlisted in the United States Air Force at Meridian. He served for eight years as an enlisted man in the Air Force before being commissioned as a Naval Officer in 1988.

During his career he served at sea and ashore in various positions, including command. He is a combat veteran of Operation Desert Storm and he served during multiple operations in the Middle East, during Kosovo operations and off the coast of Haiti during Operation Support Democracy.

He has been deployed throughout the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, Mediterranean, Black, Adriatic and Red Seas and the Arabian Gulf. One of the highlights of his career was being the first Commanding Officer of the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Naval Reserve Center at NAS Meridian.

More recently, he served as Operational Support Officer for Commander, Naval Central Command where he coordinated support for Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. He also participated in the evacuation of 14,000 American citizens from war-torn Lebanon. Commander Reeves’ final assignment was as Special Assistant to Commander, Navy Personnel Command for Selection Board Matters.

Commander Reeves is scheduled to attend the Senior Executive Course at Harvard University this summer after which he will return to Meridian. He will officially retire from the U.S. Navy in August.
