For the past four years a group of people have come together to share what they love most — digging up history.
The 5th Annual Arrowhead Collector’s Show is this Saturday in the East Mississippi Electric Power Association auditorium, and even though the show centers around arrowhead collections, that’s not all you will find at the show. Along with the arrowheads, you’ll find pieces of ancient history that were used as different tools in the area.
“Ancient man has lived in East Mississippi and West Alabama for thousands of years,” said Elton Hogan of the Magnolia Archaeological Society. “The only thing that’s left from them is their tools.”
History enthusiasts from around the area — and some from other places — come to the show every year to show off these ancient tools and weapons … and most all of them come with a history lesson to share to those interested.
“It’s an educational show as well. So it’s a great environment for kids to come out and see all these artifacts,” Hogan said.
The Magnolia Archaeological Society was formed in 2005. This show is like a family reunion for the group.
“We have a lot of return visitors for sure, and that’s great. However, we really do want to get the word out and see more people come out and enjoy what we’re doing,” Hogan said.
The show starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. in the EMEPA auditorium located at 2128 Hwy 39 North. Admission is free, but there will be a food vendor available if you would like to eat while at the show.
