With many people traveling over the upcoming spring break vacation, the Mississippi Department of Transportation issued a few guidelines to ensure those trips remain fun, safe and memorable.
MDOT recommends vacationers check their vehicle, including the brake lights, headlights, air conditioning, battery and tires for tread wear and pressure. Hoses and belts should be in good shape and windshield wipers might need to be replaced.
Vehicles should have a first aid kit, a flashlight and basic repair tools. MDOT advises packing a spare key and keeping it in a safe place.
Along with clothes and flip flops for the beach, MDOT suggests bringing plenty of water and food for road trips, along with sunscreen, sunglasses, umbrellas and chargers for all of your devices.
As always, the MDOT tells drivers not to drive distracted, to designate a navigator, to buckle up, to obey the speed limit, to share the road and to never drink and drive.
