An elderly Philadelphia woman found dead from an apparent gunshot wound Wednesday morning has been identified as Cecil Donald by Neshoba County Coroner John E. Stephens.

Police received a call around 8:30 a.m. about a car accident involving a pedestrian on Lewis Avenue and discovered an unresponsive 80-year-old woman in the road, Philadelphia Police Chief Grant Myers said.

“Witnesses on the scene said she was put out of a vehicle and provided a description of the vehicle,” Myers said.

Myers said they believed Donald died from an apparent gunshot wound.

Police received calls about a vehicle matching that description about a half mile away, on Gum Street, from where the Donald had been dumped. The vehicle, which Myers identified as Donald’s, had been involved in a separate accident.

A 20-year-old man and 16-year-old juvenile had crashed into a pine tree while speeding. Myers said he believed the two weren’t using seat belts and both were flown to the University of Mississippi Medical Center to treat their serious injuries.

The 20-year-old and 16-year-old were related to Donald, according to Myers.

Myers said charges would be filed against the two family members in Jackson.
