Meridian High School’s Ledarrius Brewer was selected to the Mississippi squad in the 2017 Mississippi Alabama Basketball Classic, which will take place March 17 in Montgomery, Ala. His teammates, Tyron Brewer and Miles Miller, were selected to the South boys team of the Mississippi Association of Coaches/Mississippi Sports Medicine All-Star basketball game, which will take place March 24 at Mississippi College in Clinton.

In addition, Quitman High School’s Sayveon Bumpers made the South boys team, and West Lauderdale High School’s Maggie Wooldridge was named to the South girls team for the MAC game.

Wildcats head coach Ron Norman said it was a testament to his players and their abilities that they were able to make their respective All-Star games.

“It’s a credit to how well they’ve worked, and it shows that other people outside of us see the talent we have here at Meridian,” Norman said. “Everyone doesn’t have an opportunity to (get selected) each and every year, and we’re just blessed to be in a cycle where we have great kids in back-to-back classes.”

West Lauderdale girls basketball coach Matt Lum, who is a coach for the South team in the MAC game, was unavailable for comment but did compliment Wooldridge’s abilities via text message.

“She’s an extension of me on the court and is willing to do whatever it takes to make others better,” Lum said in the text.

Quitman boys head coach Chris Coleman could not be reached for comment.
