A second round of joint land use study meetings concerning NAS Meridian is scheduled for 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the East Mississippi Electric Power Association Auditorium, located at 2128 Highway 39 N. in Meridian.

The study is being conducted by Lauderdale County, along with the East Central Planning and Development District, the City of Meridian, Town of Marion, and other agencies and organization in the region. The goal of the JLUS is to reduce current and potential land use conflicts between NAS Meridian and surrounding jurisdictions while accommodating new growth and economic development, protecting public health and safety, and sustaining the operational missions of NAS Meridian.

The first JLUS meeting in Meridian was on Oct. 28, and the public was given an overview of the JLUS process and the 25 compatibility factors assessed in the JLUS and an overview of the NAS Meridian mission. The public provided input on the compatibility issues they felt should be evaluated in the JLUS by participating in an interactive exercise using large wall maps and answering questions to identify issues within the JLUS study area.

For more information, call Lauderdale County Administrator Chris Lafferty at 601-482-9751.
