The Lady Wildcats won the first game 9-3 and the second game 10-1 to move on to Thursday’s third-round series versus Brookhaven.

In Game 1, Oaklynne Daugherty finished with three hits, one of which was a double, and Jaliyah Davis had a grand slam. In the second game, Daugherty hit a single and double, and Sharmetrica Young finished with two singles. Lexi Moffite tripled and singled, Az’Yunna Lewis hit a double and a home run, and Davis had another home run.

“I thought our girls came out ready to play,” Meridian head coach Mark Davis said. “We really swung the bat well and played pretty good defense. Warren Central knocked us out of the playoffs last year, so I feel like our girls had a little extra pep to their step. I was super proud of their effort tonight.”

NEL WINS BIG

Extra-base hits were the theme for Northeast Lauderdale in Tuesday’s Class II second-round series at Richland.

It worked wonders, as the Lady Trojans swept by scores of 20-3 and 24-2.

“We came out with a killer instinct, we got ahead early, and we just kept pounding away and never let up — and that says a lot about the girls,” head coach Tyler Vick said. “They set the tone, and that was it. They wouldn’t have had it any other way.”

In Game 1, Molly Moore finished 3-for-3, and Carrie Grace Baty went 4-for-4 with a double and a triple. Tot Cole was 2-for-3 with two home runs, Kennedy Boston went 2-for-4 and Jimmyia Smith went 4-for-4 with a home run. Kariyah Clemons had a double and a triple, and Raleigh White and Hallie Backus both went 3-for-4. Raegan Wagner was 2-for-2, and Kayde Lee finished 2-for-3.

In the second game, Moore went 2-for-5 with a double, Baty was 3-for-4 with a double and Cole was intentionally walked five times. Boston had three doubles, Smith went 3-for-4 and Clemons finished 4-for-4 with two doubles. White was 2-for-2, and Lee finished 3-for-3.

Northeast Lauderdale’s third-round matchup is against Lawrence County, with a time, date and location yet to be determined.
