McMurray, a student in MCC’s industrial machine program, said he likes the tools because they have Wi-Fi capability, making it easier to move around.

“It’s like a whole cordless work environment,” said McMurray.

Jim Myles, an electrical technology instructor at MCC, said the tools will help students because when they enter the workforce, they’ll have a leg up compared to others without access to the tools.

“We are giving them the advantage to use brand new technology,” said Myles.

Welding student Tatyana Bobbins added that the tools will be a way for the program to bring new jobs to the area.

Paul Kennedy, southeast sales manager of DeWalt, said the company likes to partner with community colleges that invest in the trade fields. Part of their mission is to fill the shortage of workers in the trade fields through education and new technology, he said.
