PHILADELPHIA — A highly recognized Christian band that has been touring for two decades is set to highlight a community sponsored concert that will be free to the public when “Small Town Worship Tour 2018” makes its way to the area next week.
Seventh Day Slumber will headline the concert that is set to begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7 at the Neshoba Coliseum in Philadelphia. Joining the band in concert that night will be recording artists Nathan Sheridan and Brooke Robertson.
“It’s just amazing how the community has come together to sponsor this event,” said Austin Bishop, pastor of Philadelphia First Assembly of God. “It was put on our heart to do something for the community that would encourage and uplift them, but wouldn’t cost them anything. That wouldn’t have been possible if businesses and other churches hadn’t come along side us to put this on.”
The doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the concert is expected to last about two-and-a-half hours.
“We are promoting this in the surrounding counties as well,” Bishop said. “Not only is the quality of the artists off the charts, but the message is something that will literally change lives.”
“Anything we can do to get the community and churches together to further the Kingdom of God is always a good thing,” said Rusty Parsons, youth pastor at East Philadelphia Baptist Church. “They are well known in the Christian music world and have been for years,” he said of Seventh Day Slumber. “It’s really good to have something of this quality.”
Seventh Day Slumber, led by front man Joseph Rojas, was formed in Dallas in 1996. Perhaps its biggest hit was “Oceans from the Rain,” which was released in 2006.
The band has released 10 studio albums with the most recent being “Found” in 2017. Other current members of the band are Blaise Rojas, Jeremy Holderfield and Ken Reed.
Their 2007 album “Finally Awake” was ranked No. 1 among top Christian & Gospel Albums.
Before forming Seventh Day Slumber Joseph Rojas attempted suicide following a cocaine binge and came to Christ on the ambulance ride to the hospital. He shares his testimony during the band’s concerts.
“This concert has something for everybody,” Bishop said. “Not only does Seventh Day Slumber rock it out, but they have awesome ballads and perform worship music as well. Brooke Robertson and Nathan Sheridan are both mainstream Christian music artists who will appeal to fans of the music currently played on stations like “The Message” and “K-Love.”
Sheridan recently released his debut album “Broken With You” that features the title track along with “Loves Like That” and “Alone In The Garden.”
The Pensacola, Florida, native grew up in a home with parents who were both drug abusers. He eventually was raised by his grandparents and gave his life to Christ as a 14-year-old.
“I realize now that if it weren’t for the grace of God and my grandparents stepping up to raise me, I would likely have ended up on a darker path,” Sheridan told the Christian Post in a recent interview.
Robertson, a Louisiana native, recently released her first EP “Have My Heart.”
“It’s my desire that people will find hope and draw closer to Jesus when they hear these songs,” Robertson said in an article on her website.
Music by all three artists can be found on iTunes.
