Area residents are invited to come learn about some of their delegation’s legislative priorities Monday as Sen. Rod Hickman hosts a legislative update at the old Mount Barton School.

The event, which is set to begin at 6 p.m., will be structured similar to a town hall, Hickman said, and is free and open to the public.

“They can just show up,” he said.

Hickman said he plans to give residents a recap of what the Legislature was able to get done during the 2024 session and share plans for the 2025 legislative session set to begin in January. Some of the topics, he said, will include healthcare, education, criminal justice reform and economic development.

Residents will also have an opportunity to ask questions, Hickman said, and share their priorities and concerns with both himself and other elected officials.

Monday’s event, which will also include food and door prizes, is being sponsored by the Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus.

Hickman, who took office in 2021, represents Senate District 32, which includes parts of Noxubee, Winston, Kemper and Lauderdale counties. The district includes the town of Marion and most of Meridian, as well as portions of the Lauderdale, Daleville, Dalewood and Center Ridge communities.
