Southeast Middle School teacher Sheila Hodge named Golden Apple Teacher of the Year

A local educator was recognized for her dedication to the profession by being named the Golden Apple Teacher of the Year Thursday night.

Sheila Hodge of Southeast Middle School was honored during a banquet at the Tommy E. Dulaney Center at Meridian Community College.

Hodge, who was the Golden Apple Teacher for January, received a custom Teacher of the Year Trophy, $2,500 cash to be used at her discretion and a $2,500 scholarship to be awarded to a student in her name. The student will also receive a new $1,500 laptop computer.

Also honored were Cindy Strickland of Newton Elementary (September); Bob Meng of T.J. Harris Elementary (October), Michelle Davis of Quitman High School (November); Candice Maloney of Northeast High School (December); Leah Walker of Newton County Elementary (February); Pam Hampton of Quitman Upper Elementary School (March) and Sandra Crawford of West Lauderdale Elementary (April).
