Five local students recently served as pages for the Mississippi State Senate, where they ran errands for state officials and Senate staff. Serving as pages were Asher Boles, Shelby Kate Clark, Madison Harbour and Sam Hines of Meridian, as well as Lauren Skinner from Little Rock.

Boles, Clark and Harbour attend Clarkdale High School, while Hines is a student at Lamar, and Skinner goes to West Lauderdale.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time at our great state’s Capitol. Being able to see how our government functions up close was fascinating. I’m very grateful for this opportunity and am excited for my future in this field,” Boles said.

“During my week at the Capitol, I enjoyed getting to see how state government really works. I experienced doing tasks to help senators make their job a little easier. I enjoyed making new friendships with the other pages throughout the week,” said Clark.

“I enjoyed paging at the Capitol this week because it allowed me to experience first-hand how our state government operates. I enjoyed listening to sessions while our state senators made decisions,” Harbour said.

“I really enjoyed making meaningful connections with senators and being able to experience something as exclusive as this. Being able to visit the Supreme Court was a really cool experience as well. The Capitol is a beautiful building with amazing architecture and being able to tour the building was another amazing experience as well as a page for the Senate,” Hines said.

“This week as a returning Junior Page for the Mississippi Senate was such a rewarding experience. I loved being back at the Capitol, reconnecting with everyone, and feeling more confident in my role. It was exciting to see the legislative process up close again and represent my community. Serving as a page continues to inspire me and strengthen my interest in leadership and public service,” said Skinner.

Boles, Harbour and Skinner were sponsored by Sen. Jeff Tate, while Clark and Hines were sponsored by Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann. Each page had their photo taken with Tate and Hosemann during their visit.
