Meridianite Brandie Duncan of Primary Eyecare and Optical of Meridian is the Mississippi Optometric Association’s 2025 Paraoptometric Community Service award recipient, the organization announced Saturday. The award is presented annually recognizing significant contributions to the profession of optometry and the public.

“Brandie has demonstrated her servant’s heart by sharing her time and knowledge with others, from the local to the state level. She represents our clinic, the MOA and the AOA well and is a role model for current and future paraoptometric technicians,” said Dr. Minh Duong.

Paraoptometrics are health care professionals who assist optometrists in providing the highest level of vision care to their patients. They serve as opticians, optical technicians, insurance clerks, clerical staff, personal assistants and receptionists.

Duncan has been a Certified Paraoptometric technician for 10 years and has a strong desire to help others, particularly children.

She has been happily married to her high school sweetheart for over 26 years, and she takes pride in being the mother of two outstanding young men. Currently, she is the youth director at her local church and is dedicated to serving her community and enhancing the lives of those around her. She cherishes lazy Sunday afternoons on her farm spent fishing with her family and their hound dog, Clyde.
