The Clarkdale Bulldogs football team celebrated one of their own on Friday as Bryson McCallister signed to continue playing football at Hinds Community College after graduation.
“I’m really just thankful for the opportunity to go and continue playing football,” he said. “It’s not an opportunity many people get.”
McCallister said he loved the community he saw at Hinds during campus visits, which helped sway his decision toward the collegiate Bulldogs. Leaving Clarkdale isn’t easy, he said, but the team has a depth of talent and will be in good hands.
“It’s pretty bittersweet because I’m really thankful to get to go, and I know the group that’s coming up, they’re a really good group,” he said.
Clarkdale head coach Rob Roberts said McCallister was a key player for the team and has the talent and work ethic to go far in the sport. He was a key player for the Bulldogs this past season, playing both offense and defense, Roberts said, and greater things are still to come.
“I told him since I’ve seen him snapping on the practice field in the spring that he’s really good at it, and I do think that if he keeps up with it he’ll be at a four-year college in a few years,” Roberts said. “I really do think he’s got a great opportunity at that.”
