Meridian police seize drugs in gang unit traffic stop

Meridian Police Department on Thursday announced the seizure of several different kinds of illegal drugs following a traffic stop by the department’s gang unit.
In a news release, department officials said officers dropped a Ford pickup on B Street near Highway 39 North. During a search of the vehicle, they uncovered more than 60 grams of cocaine, more than 100 grams of methamphetamine, more than 100 ecstasy pills and more than a pound of marijuana.
In addition to the seizure, officers arrested Larry Scott and charged hime with three counts of trafficking a controlled substance with a firearm enhancement, felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance. Bond was set at $195,000.
Assistant Police Chief Dareall Thompson said taking drugs off the streets makes Meridian safer.
“This seizure represents the kind of proactive enforcement that helps keep dangerous drugs off our streets,” said Thompson. “Our gang unit and our officers remain focused on disrupting criminal activity, and protecting Meridian, Mississippi neighborhoods. We will continue working every day to make our community safer. Illegal drugs have no place in our city.”
