PISGAH — All Pisgah needed was one big quarter.

The Dragons scored 24 points in the third quarter and the route was on afterwards as Pisgah raced past Southeast Lauderdale 63-32 in a Region 5-3A matchup on Friday night.

“We felt like we were missing some shots in first half, so I told the guys to stay with it the shots will fall and they did in the second half,” said Pisgah coach David Sanders. “The main thing we wanted to concentrate on was defense and the guys were determined to come out and play better on that end and they did.”

It was a back-and-forth first quarter as the Tigers and Dragons were tied 14-14 at the end of the quarter.

The second quarter Pisgah scored the first six points to take a 20-14 lead and held Southeast Lauderdale to just four points in the quarter to take a 21-18 halftime lead.

The third quarter was the difference as the Dragons outscored the Tigers 24-8 to take a commanding 45-26 lead that was highlighted by a 16-2 run midway through the quarter.

Pisgah opened the fourth quarter on a 13-0 run to extend their lead to 58-26 and seal the game.

Luke Sanders had a game-high 26 points to lead Pisgah, while Peyton McDonald added 15 points and Noah Sanders chipped in 14 points for the Dragons (11-6, 3-2 Region 5-3A).

“All year on defense we’ve been playing zone, so we want to crowd the lane and have teams try to beat us on the outside. Some teams are good enough and some teams have off nights and I thought we’ve been doing a better job on defense in the zone and the guys are figuring it out well,” Sanders said. “We will take the region win at home and needed this one bad to stay in third place in region.”

Gavin Reed-Tate and Sean Pruett had six points each to lead Southeast Lauderdale (11-9, 1-4).
