Residents are invited to learn more about heart health as the Community Health Improvement Network hosts a Healthy Heart Awareness Lunch & Learn on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at noon, at NorthPark Church, located at 7770 Highway 39 North in Meridian.
This free event is open to the public, but RSVP is required by Feb. 9.
The session will feature Dr. Eesha Khan, a cardiologist who will discuss cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and stroke, the leading cause of death in Mississippi. Khan will explain how coronary artery disease affects the major blood vessels supplying the heart and why recognizing symptoms early is critical to saving lives.
Dr. Khan will also highlight that heart disease symptoms can differ between men and women. While men are more likely to experience chest pain, women may have subtler warning signs such as shortness of breath, nausea, or extreme fatigue—symptoms that are often overlooked or misunderstood.
CHIN President Beverly Knox emphasized the importance of community education.
“Heart disease impacts families across our region, and too often the warning signs go unrecognized,” she said. “This Lunch & Learn gives our community the opportunity to better understand heart health, recognize symptoms, and take proactive steps toward prevention.”
This Healthy Heart Awareness Lunch & Learn is part of CHIN’s ongoing effort to expand access to reliable health information and preventative care, particularly for underserved and at-risk populations. Since its founding in 2016, CHIN has worked collaboratively with healthcare providers, community organizations, and faith-based partners to address critical health needs identified through local assessments.
