Gulfport, Miss. – As Mississippi Power begins its second century of service, company volunteers started the year off strongly Monday with a string of service projects for the company’s annual MLK Day of Service.
Mississippi Power employees supported local nonprofit organizations including The Link Resource Center in Hurley, Edward Street Fellowship in Hattiesburg and the Salvation Army in Meridian. Volunteers and their families also cleaned the historic community of Turkey Creek and built chicken nesting boxes at Wholistic Gardens in Gulfport.
“Volunteering in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy is one of my favorite annual projects here at Mississippi Power,” said Division Manager Chris Phillips. “Not only is this a ‘day on’ for us to give back, but it’s a way to involve our families and children in our service, too. We couldn’t achieve the desired impact without strong community partnerships, so it’s rewarding to see everyone come together.”
Last year, Mississippi Power employees completed approximately 5,500 hours of community service and donated nearly $190,000 to local charities.
Additionally, the Mississippi Power Foundation looks for opportunities to bolster Mississippi’s communities year round. In 2025, the Mississippi Power Foundation invested more than $2.5 million to support community growth, local education and environmental stewardship initiatives.
“We’re inspired by our employees’ passion for serving their communities, and the Mississippi Power Foundation is proud to support their efforts,” said Mississippi Power Foundation Executive Director Steven Dick. “The organizations we partner with make direct impacts on our customers’ lives and the communities we’re privileged to serve across southeast Mississippi, and we’re looking forward to creating more positive change in 2026.”
