Antique hunters and treasure seekers have a new place to find deals after Tipsy Gypsy cut the ribbon Thursday on its location on Poplar Springs Drive.

Located at the corner of Poplar Springs and 43rd Street, the newly renovated building features a variety of antiques, clothing, gifts and more.

“We’ve had a love for antiques for many years, so we’re excited to share this with you,” said owner Susan Culpepper. “We have everything. Anything we don’t have, please let us know. We have a list, and when we go finding we’d love to find it for you.”

Helen Sims, membership director with the East Mississippi Business Development Corporation, said she’s excited to see the family-owned business open its doors. It is small businesses like Tipsy Gypsy that drive the city of Meridian, she said.

In addition to investing in the city with their new business, Sims said the Culpeppers also chose to revitalize a vacant property, changing it from an eyesore into a bright storefront.

“To me, family business is the backbone of our community, and so we’re just so excited. The Culpeppers have spent a lot of time over the years investing in our community, and we’re so thankful that they picked a building that had been abandoned and vacant for so long and have invested in it and are using their creativity to make our community better,” she said.

Meridian City Councilman Dwayne Davis, who said he has a passion for antiques, said the new business will likely see both him and his wife becoming regular customers. The City Council stands ready to help if it is ever needed, he said.

Mayor Percy Bland echoed Davis’s comments and pledged the city’s support as well. Tipsy Gypsy isn’t far from his house, he said, and his family will likely be repeat visitors as well.

“Thank you for your investment in our city,” he said.
