Runoff election results

Meridian voters returned to the polls Tuesday to decide the winners of two runoff elections. On the ballot were races for state House District 82 and the Democratic nominee for Meridian’s Ward 3 City Council seat.
Ward 3
Voters in Meridian’s Ward 3 were asked to decide between incumbent Councilman Joe Norwood Jr. and challenger Tracey Tims to be the Democratic nominee for the City Council seat heading into the general election. In the April 1 primary election, Tims led the field with 41% of the vote compared to Norwood’s 37%.
In unofficial results, Tims maintained his lead Tuesday with 332 votes to win the nomination. Norwood received 160.
District 82
House District 82 voters had a choice between two candidates as they decided a special election to fill the District 82 seat in the state House of Representatives. Lauderdale County Supervisor for District 4 Joe Norwood Sr. was on the ballot against Meridian Civil Service Commissioner Gregory Elliott. In the March 25 election, Elliot took the top spot with 40.3% of the vote, with Norwood coming in second with 29.95%.
Elliot was also favored among voters Tuesday, receiving 805 votes out of 1,231 votes cast to win the House District 82 seat, according to unofficial results. Norwood received 424 votes.
