CLARKDALE — Call it Déjà vu.

After West Lauderdale walked off Clarkdale Tuesday, the Bulldogs returned the favor by walking off the Knights 3-2 Friday night at Jackie Roberson Field.

The win for Clarkdale also snapped West Lauderdale’s 12-game winning streak.

“We executed the bunts, read the ball in the dirt, and moved runners over to get people in scoring position,” said Clarkdale coach Josh Palmer. “We couldn’t have done that is we didn’t pitch and we pitched well tonight. Eli deserved to get that bunt down. It was a little repeat from the other night just we pitched well enough because our starter gives us a chance to win.”

West Lauderdale scored the game’s first run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead as Jacob Wooten scored on a groundout.

The scored stayed the same until the bottom of the sixth as Cade Culpepper hit a solo home run to right field to tie the game up at 1-1.

The Knights regained the lead at 2-1 with two outs in the top of the seventh as Cooper Rainer scored on a double steal and touched home plate just prior to the third out being recorded.

In the bottom of the seventh Clarkdale got the first two runners on, and Jackson McRee laid down an RBI safety squeeze bunt single to tie the game up 2-2.

With one out and the bases loaded, Eli Swearigan laid down a walk-off suicide squeeze bunt to give the Bulldogs the walkoff 3-2 win.

“I just had to do whatever I needed to do to get the job done. That is something we practice every day,” Swearigan said. “Our pitching as been good all year and having trust in my teammates that got on base before me and the ball rolled my way this time.”

Jake Lee got the win on the mound in relief for Clarkdale (11-8). Culpepper started the game on the mound for the Bulldogs lasting six-and-a-third innings scattering six hits, two runs (one earned), four walks, and had nine strikeouts.

“Cade didn’t have his best stuff, but he got out of jams, and Jake did as well,” Palmer said. “We knew this was going to be a big test for us heading into the last week of district, so this win will give us a lot of confidence.”

Wooten had three hits to lead West Lauderdale (16-3). Kayden Peoples took the loss on the mound in relief for the Knights.

West Lauderdale starting pitcher Rylan Kennedy tossed six innings scattering four hits, no walks, and had nine strikeouts.

“We had our chances to extend the lead and couldn’t get the hit when we needed,” said West Lauderdale coach Jason Smith. “Rylan Kennedy pitched great, but Clarkdale is a really good team. We’ve had four great games over the last two years. We will regroup and get ready for Newton County next week for district championship.”
